Back to articles 4 poker tips from a successful BBZ student July 3, 2024 | Jack Stanton Share The fact that you’re here, on this website, opening this poker tips blog, and reading this article means you probably want to not only get better at poker but also find some success. To show you just how achievable that is when you study with BBZ Poker, we regularly chat with community members about how our Daily Seminars and products have helped them produce scores they never dreamed possible. In this article, we’re talking to Marc, a 31-year-old financial planner from Montreal who plays poker as a fun (and profitable) hobby. Marc is known as “Gohnny Sins” on GG Poker and “Bigplekplek” in our Discord. Marc recently put up his biggest score of the year – a third-place finish for 15,149 in a $54 buy-in Bounty Hunters Daily Main on GG Poker – and he credited his success directly to our Seminars. He quickly followed that up with a runner-up finish in a $25 Daily Warm-Up on GG for $7,137. Here, Marc tells us about his poker journey so far, how BBZ Poker has helped him with recent results, and his tips for anyone grinding the micro-stakes. BBZ Blog: Hey Marc, congratulations on your recent success. Could you talk about how you started and what your poker journey has been like so far? I started playing five years ago when my friend told me to try it as a joke. I didn’t know what I was doing when I started but the story of how I got hooked has been told many times. I won my first tournament ever: a $0.55 buy-in for $75. I probably made all the usual mistakes – bad bankroll management, overestimating my edge, not enough studying, etc. But I slowly got better by watching poker streams on Twitch. Since 2021, I’ve only had positive years, with 2024 being by far my best year already. I made as much with poker as with my job since 2023 but I love doing both at the same time. apestyles Bundle A classroom webinar series teaching you winning MTT strategies $125 More detailsAdd to cart At what point did you discover BBZ Poker and how did you get started with them? I think I heard about BBZ Poker for the first time two to three years ago when Jordan played on the PartyPoker streams. The first BBZ product I purchased was the Apestyles Bundle which opened my eyes to a lot of things. I’ve been subscribed to the Daily Seminars for about two years now and it has been, by far, the best source of poker knowledge available. You mentioned how the seminars have really helped you. Could you talk about what you’ve been studying and how you applied it in your recent results? I try to watch every seminar. However, I’ve been really busy with the grind and work and there are thousands of hours of content, so I have prioritised Jargo, Jordan and Bryan’s seminars, as I feel their teaching styles have been perfect for how I learn. Daily Seminars $75 / month / mo $750 / year / yr Best Value More detailsAdd to cart For recent results, I precisely remember picturing in my head what Jargo showed us about deep runs and ICM (using 40% of the field remaining charts for ITM play). Bryan’s approach also has helped me so much in the last year, his first seminars were enlightening for me. I give a lot of credit to those three coaches who helped me go from a 5% average ROI to 25%+. The first score was in a bounty event. Has BBZ Poker helped you with these tournaments? How? Definitely. I don’t know how expensive it is to have one of the GOATs teach seminars every week, but [it’s great being able to learn from] Alex “Pwndidi” Theologis every week. His bounty content is a gold mine. 3-Betting at Short Stacks Designed to cater to players who are serious about elevating their game, the course features detailed video lessons, comprehensive hand analyses, and interactive learning tools to ensure concepts are not just understood but mastered. From the nuances of 3-bet sizing to advanced bluffing techniques, Alex covers a wide range of topics essential for dominating in today’s competitive MTT landscape. $125 More detailsAdd to cart Both scores came in massive fields. How do you navigate the big field events? I see two important things to navigate big fields, especially on GG where stacks can stay shallow for quite a while. 1. You don’t need to do fancy plays all the time. Stay solid with your theory knowledge. 2. Again, I try to remember all the tips and tricks Jargo and Bryan have planted in my head. How will the money from these scores impact your life and your poker playing moving forward? These particular scores won’t impact that much because I stay in low to mid stakes to keep the results predictable, but all the scores together over the years helped me get a car and a house. In 2024, I’ve been speed-running through my mortgage with poker. If you could go back, what would you tell yourself when you were grinding the micros? I have to say, I don’t have too many regrets because all the mistakes I made led me to the player I am today. What I would tell myself when I was grinding the micros are the same things I’m telling myself today: – You’re not that good and you always have tons to learn. – Keep studying because others are getting better every day. – Don’t be too harsh on yourself when you make a costly mistake, they are part of the game. Learn from them. – Don’t hero call too much, this isn’t where the money is.
