Running your first report

The whole thing runs on the text files your poker client writes while you play. You collect them, upload the folder, and work down what comes back.

1. Collect your hand histories. PokerStars, 888poker, Winamax, iPoker and ACR write a text file to a folder on your machine as you play, so the hands are already sitting there provided saving has been switched on at some point. GGPoker and CoinPoker keep theirs server-side instead, which means picking a date range in PokerCraft or Poker Intel and downloading the batch. The guide has the exact menu path for all seven networks and what to check when the folder turns out to be empty.

2. Upload the folder. Send everything rather than a curated sample. There is nothing to convert and no filters to set up first, and each extra thousand hands makes the stats sitting on thin samples slightly more worth acting on.

3. Read it by position. The report breaks every stat out from under the gun through the blinds. Start with the seats you play most often, because those carry your largest samples and the flags on them are the ones you can trust first.

4. Come back with a fresh database. Upload again after a few months and put the two reports side by side. The stats that moved are the ones your study actually changed, which is a harder question to answer from memory than most players expect.

What the report gives you

175 stats across preflop, flop, turn and river, each one broken out by position. Every line carries four things: the frequency you actually played, where that sits against the target, the target range itself, and what to do about it.

One stat, four answers
What you did
Limp/Fold 66.67%
How that reads
HIGH
The target
35 to 45%
The adjustment
Fold less
The hand count each stat was calculated from sits on the line as well.

Where the targets come from

Recommended ranges are set by the BBZ team from aggregated preflop and postflop reports, MDF calculations and other theoretical models, all built on equal-stack ChipEV scenarios.

The reason that matters is calibration. Most published stat guides are built on cash game data, which lands close enough to look correct in a tournament report and far enough off to have a player spending a month correcting a frequency that was never wrong for the format they play. ICM, PKO structures and adjustments against a specific pool all sit outside what these targets cover.

How many hands you need

Around 50,000 gives you reliable feedback on the spots that come up in every tournament you play. Below that the report still returns all 175 stats, with progressively more noise on the rarer positional splits, which is the reason the hand count appears next to every single line rather than only in a footnote.

That hand count is worth paying attention to. Sample sizes are extremely important when analyzing Leak Finder stats.

Leak Finder report showing small blind stats with hero frequency, target range and recommended action for each

Each position (sb, bb, BTN, etc.) is analyzed in the Leak Finder report.

Rooms it reads

PokerStars, GGPoker, CoinPoker, 888poker, Winamax, iPoker and ACR.

Five of those write your hands to disk as you play. GGPoker and CoinPoker hold them on their own servers for a limited window instead, 90 days in GGPoker’s case, so a player who downloads a batch every couple of months keeps a database worth analysing while everyone else starts from zero each quarter.

Worth doing tonight whether or not you buy anything: open your client and check hand history saving is switched on. Nothing is backfilled, so hands played before you enable it do not exist on your machine at all. Where to find your files has the setting for each network.

First ”checkpoint” after working on the weaknesses that the leakinder showed me. Not a lot of volume, but got from 41 good stats to 52, and other stats are not good yet but trending in the right direction.

I know its not much volume, but the improvement is mainly preflop, you can see the difference in SB for example. The improvement is indeniable. If some of you are still wondering if they should get the leakfinder, go get it now

    Hello,
I have been wanting to write a review for the MTT Leak Finder as it is a very important part of my studying routine. By no means am I a poker savant, or claim to be a really good player, but FWIW, I have a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in adult learning theory, improvement cycles, and other educational theories I won’t bore you with. I just wanted to bring some credibility to the post. The MTT Leak Finder is an essential component of the learning process, as it will give you your starting points for an improvement cycle. This is what my study routine and improvement cycle look like.

Hi guys, I just want to share the MTT leak finder output and my results this year. It is such an effective way of filtering out the things I have to work on. It is weird to see I have the same winrate across MP-BU, but there is always some variance. I will share the results in some time to see how studying changes things. Considering that a lot of statistics are heavily correlated I am pretty happy with my performance. I believe I will reach mid/high stakes, if anyone wants to work together feel free to dm me

Hey guys! The leak finder is another solid product released by the BBZ Team.

It helped me identify where my biggest leaks are, and paired with the seminars, it allowed me to focus my study time where my game needs it most. I still have a long ways to go to being an absolute crusher, but I’m happy with the way my stats/graph is trending.

Hello, first time poster and new to BBZ, what made me join was the MTT leakfinder.

I have used it and it really opened my eyes at some spots. Very helpful! Together with the free video on DB analysis on Lex game it got me 2-3 things to focus on and put my study time there. Looking forward to post after another 100k hands 🙂

Just got the Leakfinder – might be the most value I ever got from 10 dollars. Thanks for providing a cheap and effective way to highlight my blind spots and help me focus on the right things when studying!

FAQ

Which poker sites does it support?

PokerStars, GGPoker, CoinPoker, 888poker, Winamax, iPoker and ACR. The hand history guide covers where each one keeps its files. Your client needs to be running in English, which catches out 888poker players in particular, because a client installed in another language writes hand histories nothing downstream can parse.

How does the Leak Finder work?

Upload your tournament hand histories and it grades 175 stats against tournament targets, broken out by position, returning a target range and a recommended adjustment for each one. There is a full walkthrough with screenshots on the tutorial page.

Do I need PokerTracker 4?

No, the uploader reads hand histories directly. If you already own PT4 the custom BBZ report still works, and a tracker database has one genuine advantage over raw files, which is that it already holds every hand you have ever imported across every room in one place.

Does it work with other tracking software?

Tracking software is optional either way, since the Leak Finder reads the same hand history files your tracker imports. Holdem Manager and Hand2Note databases are not read directly, though both sit on top of those files and you can upload them the usual way.

Where do the targets come from?

The BBZ team sets them from aggregated preflop and postflop reports, MDF calculations and other theoretical models, using equal-stack ChipEV scenarios. They do not account for ICM, PKO or exploitative adjustments against a particular pool.

How many hands do I need?

Around 50,000 for reliable feedback on the most common spots. Any sample size returns the full report, and the hand count on every stat tells you where a thin sample makes a flag less reliable.

Preflop stats need less, river stats require more to be considered accurate.

What do the results show?

Where your frequencies sit relative to the theoretical target across preflop, flop, turn and river, position by position. “Good” means you are inside the range, while “Low” and “High” mark spots worth reviewing. Treat it as a guide to where your study time goes rather than a judgement on whether individual hands were played profitably.

Does it work for cash game hands?

Tournaments only. Specifically ChipEV vanilla format MTTs.

How long do I keep my report?

Six months from the date it is generated, viewable any time in your account while the subscription is active.
