Clothes

There’s no dress code for poker (especially not online!) but comfort is always a must. Play a long session in pants that are too tight or a sweater that itches and you’ll understand.

Thankfully there are plenty of options available for players who not only want to feel comfortable but also want to display their love of poker, or their support for a content creator.

On the surface it might seem like giving someone poker training material for Christmas is essentially like giving them a slap on the face and insulting their game, but trust us, the vast majority of poker players want to improve. They’re just not ready to invest in themselves.

Chairs

There are plenty of different styles of desk chairs available. Ign.com lists the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 Series ($489 / £369) as the best gaming chair of 2021, while nymag.com puts the Herman Miller Aeron Chair ($1,495) at the top of the ergonomic office chair list. Of course, they’re both pretty expensive, but there are certainly more affordable options.

At $161, The Modway Articulate Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair was awarded the ‘best affordable ergonomic office chair’ by nymag.com, while the OFM Essentials Racing Chair ESS-3085 was named the best cheap gaming chair by Ign.com with prices starting at around $138.

Mental game books

As poker players, we should not only work on our poker games and our physical health, but we should also spend time working on our mental games too.

We recently asked our performance coach Frank Hamel to pick his top five books to improve your mental game and he came up with some excellent suggestions.

Top of the list was Atomic Habits by James Clear, which is also the book that Twitch superstar and BBZ student Fintan “easywithaces” Hand frequently recommends on his stream.

“This is my bible for understanding behavior change,” says Hamel. “Atomic Habits provides four simple steps to build better habits leading to more discipline and consistency in your life and in your performance.”
