Relive Lex Veldhuis’ biggest Twitch cash ($97K): every hand analysed by BBZ

Lex Veldhuis is a poker player with countless career highlights.

This is the guy who called Doyle Brunson’s $60K pot-sized river bet with just a pair of deuces on High Stakes Poker. This is the guy whose Twitch stream became the no.1 channel on the entire Twitch platform. This is the guy who set up his own live poker festival–Lex Live–to bring his online community together in person.

But when it comes to Lex’s poker results on Twitch, his deep run in a PokerStars $5,200 Blowout Series Side Event in January 2021 remains the crowning jewel. Lex ultimately finished fourth for $97,257, his largest score on Twitch at the time of writing.

Lex has been battling in more high rollers with $1K-$25K buy-ins than ever before across the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) in May 2020, the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) in September 2020, the SCOOP 2021 earlier this year, and other big series run by PokerStars throughout that time. He’s currently going to war in the WCOOP 2021.

It’s easy to forget that just a few years ago Lex was still technically learning to win online tournaments from the ground up. Don’t get us wrong, he’d had plenty of success in tournaments throughout his storied career–he finished third in the Sunday Million back in 2007 for $77K and final tabled the $40K at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2009 for $278K–but he was primarily a cash game grinder at that time, and later focused solely on pot limit omaha (PLO) cash.

When Lex first began streaming tournaments on Twitch (at his audience’s request), he began at the low stakes–$4 buy-ins and up–despite having a bankroll big enough to jump straight into the mid to high stakes.

Today, with years of Twitch grinding and plenty of studying under his belt, Lex is a regular in the toughest online tournaments running, not to mention the no.1 Twitch poker streamer in the world. He has $2.45 million in online cashes on PokerStars alone to date, according to PocketFives.

“I’m super curious to look at the back end and see how successful this score actually was,” Lex adds.
